2010 is a year of great challenge and opportunity in the fight against global poverty. It’s ten years since the nations of the world made promises to the poor amongst us. We’re bringing 100 million people together in a worldwide cry that the poor and our promises to them cannot be forgotten.
If the nations of the world did what they promised to do back in 2000 then half a billion people would be lifted out of poverty by 2015. We recognize that poverty will not be solved by governments, but that we as Christians have a special calling to love and serve the poor--This is why we are asking you to make a promise on 10.10.10 to Lend a Hand. We want to come together to commit ourselves to remembering the poor and living a life that helps bring them justice. We want to ask our leaders to do the same. And we want to pray, because we can't achieve anything as big as this without God's help.
The worldwide Micah2010 campaign will culminate on 10.10.10 - the date for this year's Micah Sunday - a day when literally millions of Christians worldwide will Lend a Hand and pray, promise and press their leaders.
How you Can Lend a Hand
- PRAY with millions around the world for justice for the world's poor On 10 October 2010 we are calling Christians around the world to prayer. Get your church to join with millions by hosting a Micah 2010 service on 10.10.10. We'll provide you resources for anything from a 5 minute slot to a whole service. More details to follow.
- PROMISE to be part of bringing change We want you to commit to remembering the poor and living a life that helps bring them justice. The way you live your life counts. Commit to living a life of justice, a life that helps our 2015 promises to be fulfilled. Symbolize this promise by making a hand-print! More details to follow.
- PRESS our leaders for a more wholehearted commitment to eradicating poverty. Collect hand-prints between now at 10.10.10 at big events, conferences, and church or campus worship services. Work with us to set up a meeting with your congressional representative to deliver your hand prints and urge them to meet the Millennium Development Goals. You can also send us your hand-prints and we will add them to the thousands being collected at conferences, concerts, festivals, and other events and bring them with us to Washington as we urge our leaders to recommit to the Millennium Development goals.
